A youth in Raiganj’s Kharmuzaghat Tulsitala area was attacked with acid and stabbed with a sharp weapon on Friday night. The victim, Sanjay Gwala, is undergoing treatment at Raiganj Hospital with serious injuries to his face and hands. The attack reportedly occurred after Sanjay confronted a group of youths over their reckless behavior and alleged harassment of women in the locality.
Sanjay alleged that the attackers were a group of youths from Bihar who live in a rented house in the area. He stated that these individuals often ride bikes recklessly and create disturbances in the neighborhood, including harassing women. On Friday, a confrontation took place when Sanjay protested their actions, leading to the attack. He was first stabbed with a sharp weapon, and acid was later thrown on his face and eyes.
In his complaint to the police, Sanjay said, “I already had disputes with one of them due to earlier arguments. Seeing me, he got aggressive, threw acid on my face, and stabbed me in the hand. He was intoxicated.”
Based on the complaint, Raiganj Police arrested one of the accused, identified as Prince Kumar, a resident of Bihar. Investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend others involved. Police are also examining the history of complaints and the activities of the accused in the locality.
